Western Europe comes to grips with working
According to the International Herald Tribune, Europe is reconsidering the wisdom of mandated short work weeks and luxurious vacation policies. The evidence of this change that the article presents is anecdotal, so it is not certain that a better understanding of economics is really spreading, but even the fact that the article was written is encouraging. It is a shame that ideas (like “if we all work less, there will be more work to spread around for everyone”) which were throrougly discredited by Mises and Hazlitt so long ago ever gained acceptance. But the fact that the truth eventually surfaces, and people are capable of learning, is a hopeful sign.

What is the Mises Institute?

The Mises Institute is a non-profit organization that exists to promote teaching and research in the Austrian School of economics, individual freedom, honest history, and international peace, in the tradition of Ludwig von Mises and Murray N. Rothbard.

Non-political, non-partisan, and non-PC, we advocate a radical shift in the intellectual climate, away from statism and toward a private property order. We believe that our foundational ideas are of permanent value, and oppose all efforts at compromise, sellout, and amalgamation of these ideas with fashionable political, cultural, and social doctrines inimical to their spirit.
