So, Brad DeLong discovered that he’s often in a tag with “ludwig von mises” and “lew rockwell”, and as the person who “owns” the tag, has forbidden anyone from posting his name with those.
My reply on his blog: “If you promise to stop taking Mises out of context, so that I have to put him back IN context, then I’ll consider your proposal.”
On the other hand, maybe we should stop giving him publicity…

the other tags present there were “spy” and “las vegas”….;-)
It will be interesting to see how he plans to enforce his demands.
Yeah, you’d think that enforcement would be a significant problem…
Especially considering that a quick search on Facebook shows that there are at least 9 people that could reasonably go by “Brad DeLong” (1 of which being the J. Bradford in question).
…DeLong is Krugman’s sith disciple, just as Geithner is Sommers’.
He really is devoid of scientific rigour and full of hack.
On the plus side, he is loyal to his master… (and will be rewarded accordingly).
The big problem for a Dog-on-a-leash is that the neighborhood cats eventually learn how long the leash is. Stupid Jerk is trying to extend his leash into the neighbor’s yard!
DeLong is corrupt and dishonest. He’s a dirty dealer.
I’d suggest that opens him to being dealt with any way people wish.
New names for “he who forbids us to use his name”
Stupid Jerk

Brad DeLong-shot (This one has merrit for search engines)
I’m sure we can come up with other names for the idiot.
His request is stupid for a number of reasons though. Principal aside, by not using his majesty’s name in tags, he looses exposure and hits in the search engines. The content of his ideas, the quotes and links created when his verbiage is cited, will link to the sentences and site links, but not directly to his name. He falls off the radar if he gets his wish!
If you post on the Internet, and you google yourself, and the only hits that come back are your own posts, then nobody else is paying attention to you!
If on the otherhand the hits come back with other posts by other people who mention your name and your ideas, then your hit count will be much much higher. Even if the other comments are posts against your thoughts, they raise your presence on the web.
Arrogance and Stupidity always seem to be in collusion with each other…
Heh, I Google my name and all that comes back are other people with my name. And what is really galling is that they have much more successful careers and contributions than I have. Maybe if I embraced Keynesian economics and got a job with the Fed I would get somewhere in life.
A nice thing about having a Greek first name and a German last name (traditionally spelled) is that there are very few people who share it. I’ve actually only every found one other person that I’m sure of that shares my name (a German kid who does BMX, and swimming), though I suspect that there’s another one, as Lucas Engelhardt appears on an alumni list for Union College in Senectady, NY. The very strange thing is that this one and I would have graduated from college in the same year… And, I can’t find any other reference to him.
I was banned from commenting on his blog because I once referred to Paul Krugman as a former Enron consultant. deLong is simply an articulate hack.
Brad DeLong Ludwig von Mises Lew Rockwell,
Brad DeLong Ludwig von Mises Lew Rockwell,
Brad DeLong Ludwig von Mises Lew Rockwell,
Brad DeLong Ludwig von Mises Lew Rockwell.
wash, rinse, repeat.
This reminds me of Carl Sagan, who forbade the folks at Apple from using his name as a codename for a project a while back. He tried to sue and lost.
Apple’s engineers complied with his demand anyway and renamed the project internally to BHA (Butt-Head Astronomer).
Then he tried to sue again, over the new name, and lost again!
At least it was good to see “Brad Delong” wasn’t used along with tags like “sound policy” or “sensible” or “insightful”. I suggest all discussions of Delong’s rantings be tagged “idiocy” or some such.
I guess he is too embarrassed to complain about being in a tag with the words “coward”, “gutless”, and “dishonest”.
As expected, my comment has vanished from DeLong’s blog. Just thought I’d share.
