Lawrence H. White at Rhodes College Tonight

March 9, 2009 by

Paraphrased from Rhodes.edu:

Lawrence H. White, the F. A. Hayek Professor of Economic History at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, will present “Can the Monetary System Regulate Itself?” Free and open to the public, the lecture begins at 7 p.m. in the Barret Library 051.

Professor White is an authority on the history and theory of free banking. He has published in leading economics journals and is author of Competition and Currency and The Theory of Monetary Institutions. He holds degrees from Harvard University and the University of California at Los Angeles.

His lecture at Rhodes is presented by the Omicron Delta Epsilon economics honor society and the Department of Economics and Business through a generous grant from the Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation.

Here’s Professor White on the financial bailouts. Here are FEE podcasts with Professor White on the gold standard and the subprime crisis (1, 2).

It promises to be a pretty interesting event. Seating will be limited, but professor White’s lecture will be recorded and put on the internet.
