The story about Chicago was just amazing. Simply amazing. “There was this suspicious Secret Service guy asking questions about security… And I think he was carrying a US Gov. issue firearm…” At least I like to believe that that’s the way the conversation went, even though it obviously isn’t.

When my wife and I visited Paris with some friends over the summer, we were alarmed by what appeared to be French paramilitary troops walking around in public areas, in squads of 4, brandishing FAMAS assault rifles. Imagine the death toll if those guys got “twitchy”.

The police tend to be very twitchy in these situations, and the vast majority of the people on the trains will be unaccustomed to the sight of firearms (here in Northern VA they typically call gun owners like myself “gun nuts”). So the potential for somebody making a fatal mistake is definitely there.
