We know from vast correspondence that readers of Mises.org appreciate the many thousands of essays, book, and hours of media available at no charge — each offering a different perspective from what you can find anywhere else. Would you consider supporting this work with a donation? Voluntary support is essential to keeping Mises.org on the cutting edge. You have helped this site soar to the top in terms of traffic, not only beating out other economics sites and most every nonprofit but also most every cause-related site you can think of. Mises.org represents a fundamental challenge to socialism and Keynesianism, the greatest political and economic failures in world history. Tragically, they are both not only fashionable among the elites but more so than freedom. FULL ARTICLE

“It is in the interest of our rulers to promote bad ideology.
“Who wins from bailouts, regulations, and inflation? It’s not the middle class, taxpayers, or the businesses we know and love. It is the state, the bureaucrats, the megabankers, and the entire crew of connected interest groups who live at our expense.”

Exactly — and with the cost of money now discounted some 75 to 100%, we’re looking at free money for bankers — that for sure will promote good investment, right?

What economists continually miss is the the currency of government is not currency — it is power. Anyone who fails to understand that will never understand government, or economics.

Merry Christmas to all.

FREE WAY TO HELP OUT MISES.ORG:

Use Goodsearch, and as your charity, use the “Mises Institute”. I usually just type in Mises and can find it in there.

If you’re really lazy, you can dl a plugin for Firefox to keep Goodsearch in your upper-right corner instead of Google, and your cache can hold the fact that you’re searching for the Mises Institute.

What gems glowed especially brilliant for me?

- “What is needed to stop the trend towards socialism and despotism is common sense and moral courage.”

- Good ideas buildup civilization, while bad ones destroy it.

- How thrilled Mises would have been. When we started, his widow Margit von Mises was our chairman. Murray Rothbard, F.A. Hayek, Henry Hazlitt, Hans Sennholz, and Ron Paul were founding advisors.

- I believe that the Mises Institute is the greatest hope for liberty in our time.

- We are a privately funded institute with no connections to powerful elites. That means that you are our only hope and our best foundation for future growth.

- Now is the time to prepare for the exciting days to come.

Does the Mises Institute profit from book sales? Or do they sell them just at cost?

Just wondering if the books I’ve bought from here count as financially supporting the Institute.

Mises Institute claims not to be connected to powerful elites, but powerful elites use it to advance fringe ideas, thus expanding the window of acceptable discourse in order to actually promote the “liberalism with the big state on my side” agenda.

Would you consider a student membership? FEE offers one. I believe it helps to engage students. Thanks.

Russ, you claim to be serious with the nonsense you spout. We don’t care. Buzz off, worthless troll.

Russ, I wonder what political philosoph you’re currently holding when combined with Austrian-Libertarian ideas from this site you’re coming to such statements as you did.

In general the philosophy practiced on this site is as much opposed to the Wallstreet bailout as to the unprecedented power seize of the power elite in the beginning of the 20th century (e.g. Rockefeller, Morgan clans). What is important here is that “we” do not so much blame these elites for seizing the opportunities they’re given of have created, but government facilitating and making room for these socially destructive activities.

So you can read once in a while here that some of the proponents of these elites were (emphasize WERE) great capitalists and provided great products and services tha benefited society greatly, while on the other hand it is acknowledged that these elites are power-seeking entities expploiting state power for their own corporatist interests. These incentives, however, are laid out by government and the general destruction of the Constitution.

I wish you wisdom in finding the truth, and I hope you’d reconsider your opinion of the Mises institute.
