I bought one of about three copies of Flynn’s The Roosevelt Myth used from a seller on amazon.com, read it & lamented how such wonderful books were being lost to future generations. Imagine my surprise when I discovered I could buy new copies of TRM along with numerous works by Austrian school economists through mises.org.

Thanks for all you do to share knowledge from the past that not only preserves history but offers solutions that are relevant in the here and now.

I discovered the “Austrian School” by accidentâ€”doing some research on the depression for my own interest. I was so captivated by Murray Rothbard’s book on the subject, I read all of his books which were available to me and learned of his passing just when I learned of the Institute and was motivated to meet him.

The greatest thing about the LvMI is now, more than ever, anyone can now be a pamphleteer. I’ve only just read Economics in One Lesson and find I can distribute copies on a VERY limited budget. It behooves all of us to remind people of unintended consequences of today’s new policies, and now we have a great reference tool to make our case.

Which brings me to a criticism I have of LvMI and its many members: We’re too comfortable sitting back and cynically posting one-liners about the coming chaos that we ALL KNOW IS COMING! Why, for example, was there not an ‘Austrian’ contingent during the demonstrations against the Wall St. bailout? Sure, we all read Lew’s good article on the subject, but did anyone else? Are we too scared of the eat-the-rich lefties to hold a banner against bailouts or the WTO etc?

With more bailouts on the horizon, we need publicity NOW or else the world will fail to learn the lessons it ought to have learned last time around. With a focus on compassion rather than academic curiosity, the LvMI can save the world yet.

I just wanted to say how ironic it is that so many people complain against capitalists for being ‘greedy’ and demanding money for virtually everything, when we have an institute such as the LvM that is giving away literally thousands of gigabytes of data free over the net, in addition to entire books.

I find it a really delightful thing. Congrats guys.

Mr. Tucker, the institute seems to get a large deal of intercontinental viewers. However, I can imagine there are many who being less fluent in the english language have not been able to access the wonderful information provided. So the idea came to me that perhaps the next big project for you guys could be towards providing the site’s material and layout in other languages. Naturally one could use google translator, but that requires that you already have been to the site, where as when the content itself is in a different tongue it will show up on the search engines. Of course, there are probably a lot of financial and technical considerations that would have to go into it (doubling or tripling the sites’ data?) but the benefits of having content in, say, chinese or japanese would be wonderful in spreading paleo-liberalism to those countries whose exposure has been limited due to the language barrier; that’s if you can get through the great firewall of China. ; )

I was introduced to Austrian Econ a few years ago (2001) with Hazlitt’s sublime work, “Economics in One Lesson”. Ron Paul resparked the fire for me. I was searching for Murray Rothbard’s “Case Against the Fed”, after NO bookstores were able to get it. I was shocked to find the book online to read.

Thank you for continuing to print works that no one else will! I have been giving friends and family members links to various articles and blog postings as well.

I found Mises.org around 2003 when researching about comparative advantage for my MBA. I never looked back – thank you, Mises.org for ripping off the wool over my eyes. I am so happy to see this wonderful resource for freedom grow and flourish and Austrian Economics being vindicated (even if it took a terrible economic crisis). Thank you, all.

I just counted 27 books on my shelf published by the Mises Institute, and probably 100+ more on my hard drive, which I couldn’t have afforded (and would never have given a second look anyway – I thought that economics was just foolishness before I discovered the Austrian school (and rightly so) – if I’d had to buy printed books to see it). Fantastic work; my undying gratitude to all concerned!

Truely remarkable work. I wish in near future Mises store expands itself to many different parts of the world. At least, one major store in each continent so that we can spread the ideas of liberty and Austrian economics quickly. Difficulties are there but they are not insurmountable.

an amazing article…depicting an amazing journey. i think one can argue that the founding and the success of the mises institute might be the single most important event in the history of man’s quest for liberty(?). i am from india (currently pursuing a phd in the us) and i would never have been able to pursue my interest in austrian economics if i had not discovered mises.org. thanks to the entire staff, mr.tucker and lew…

I listened to the webcast and was thrilled by the accomplishments. It is great that those who did not get to hear it can read about the monumental progress and the exalted role the Mises Institute plays in transforming the population of the world from ignorance (and therefore slavery to the State) to states of illumination that come from the principles and concepts of classical liberalism.
