Polish Man Discovers Life Better After Communism

August 11, 2007 by

USA Today reports on Jan Grzebska, a polish worker who awakened from a 19-year coma. When he suffered a head injury, Poland was communist. Now, according to his wife, “He was so amazed to see the colorful streets, the goods,” and, “He says the world is prettier now”. The article continues, “Grzebski was shocked to see the streets and shops in the town. ‘He remembered shelves filled with mustard and vinegar only’ under communism.”

So do I… and I wasn’t in coma for the last 20 years.

“Grzebski was shocked to see the streets and shops in the town. ‘He remembered shelves filled with mustard and vinegar only’ under communism.”

That’s utter codswallop.

I once had a Polish girlfriend who told me a story of what passed between her visiting uncle and her father, who had left Poland long before. The uncle asked if all the food he could see in the supermarkets was real. It turned out that, in Poland, shops had replicas of food to show customers what it looked like, so they knew where to go on the rare occasions that any got delivered to the stores.

So you see that it is absolute nonsense to claim that, under communism, Poland only had mustard and vinegar on the shelves. There was lots of fake food.

You have obviously never had a mustard and vinegar sandwich, but minus the bread. Hmmmmmm! Good!

One morning in the early Sixties, two diplomats, a French one in Paris and a Russian one in Moscow, got on trains bound for each other’s cities.

The next morning, both stopped in Warsaw at the same time and the diplomats, having just woken, got out and encountered each other on the platform. The Russian’s eyes were glowing with pleasure as he said to the other, “God, how beautiful! Is this Paris?”

The Frenchman, his face contorted with disgust at the sights before him, said, “No! This hellhole could only be Moscow!”

Mr. Blumen is hopefully working on a lengthy review and comment on the current mortgage/stock market “issues” and such, but I love this little post. Close your eyes and imagine the USA in 20 years, after Hillary takes us to levels even FDR and Johnson didn’t dream of….

Don’t forget the debilitation effects of the G.W.Bush’s massive debt increase and deficits we are experiencing now. Substantial jobs sent overseas with just shell companies here. Also illeagal immigrants at the other end taking poorer paid service work up to construction employment. What is going to hit us full on will be substantially worse that the crash of 1929 because jobs weren’t being offshored as they are now for the greedy ones to squeeze just a little more profit for themselves.
