Ultimately, employers should be free to either recognize or not to recognize unions as the agent of the employee’s who voluntarily wish to be represented by the union. If employee’s strike, the employer should be free to fire or permantly replace them. Employees should have the freedom either to join the union, or to refrain from joining the union and instead bargain directly with their employer.

It is interesting, as workers repeatedly reject unionization in secret elections, the unions are moving to eliminate secret elections in favor of coercive “card check” procedures, that would allow them to harass, bully and threaten workers into signing the cards. Indeed, they could even come to your home to harass you. The bill is H.R. 800 and has already passed the House of Representatives and is currently pending in the Senate. If the unions win this, their next move will be to repeal Taft-Hartley and return to the days of total union tyranny.

Ultimately, we need to end the system of union monopoly and return to the libertarian principle of free association.
