I think I need one of these for the wall next to my desk. And if you need any proof that this pithy little observation is really true, check out this meeting of the states’ attorneys general. That’s right, boys and girls, only the feds can save us from the evil that is price gouging. I wonder if only an economic distortion of this type on a nationwide scale will have the power to convince people that price gouging laws don’t work?

I used their “Agony: Not all pain is gain.” as a background picture for quite a while. I consider the art and sayings of Dispair.com to be very enjoyable and much more thought inspiring than the pablum usually offered in commercial printed “art”.
What depressing news.
This reminds me of the kind of thing that gets put in high school history books: “For years, consumers were hurt by legal price gouging that occurred nationwide during times of crisis. While experts disagreed on how to implement such laws, their necessity became apparent in 2005, when a hurricane that destroyed much of the south managed to cause unreasonable price hikes on goods as far away as New Jersey. In the fall of 2006 congress finally passed the Necessity in Crisis acts, which to this day protect victims from greedy-eyed price gougers and ensure reasonable prices on goods in times of trouble.”
This is a depressing trend – state-level politicians acting as de facto federal legislators, and working with the aquiescence if congressmen to restrict the rightd of people who don’t even reside in their state!
