On May 19, the Justice Department will hand out various awards celebrating excellence in antitrust enforcement, including a lifetime achievement award to a familiar conservative figure:
All Former Antitrust Division Employees are Invited to Attend the Presentation of the Antitrust Division’s Sherman Award to the Honorable Robert H. Bork in Recognition of Outstanding Lifetime Contributions to the Protection of American Consumers and the Preservation of Economic liberty
So a group of antitrust lawyers are inviting other antitrust lawyers to watch an award being given to yet another antitrust lawyer. Apparently antitrust lawyers are the centerpiece of our American economy. Certainly we could not have a free market without them, the years prior to the Sherman Act’s passage in 1890 notwithstanding.
Incidentally, the DOJ cautions that at this celebration of economic liberty, “all guests are requested to bring two forms of picture identification and to be prepared for appropriate security screening.”
