The Sky Is Falling, Again

The Sky Is Falling, Again

Twenty-five years after Julian Simon and Paul Ehrlich made their famous bet, people still don't get it. "Two-Thirds of World's Resources 'Used Up,'" screams the headline in today's Guardian (highlighted by Drudge). "The human race is living beyond its means. A report backed by 1,360 scientists from 95 countries — some of them world leaders in their fields — today warns that the almost two-thirds of the natural machinery that supports life on Earth is being degraded by human pressure."

Fortunately, man's material condition is not primarily determined by geology (or geography), but by human action.

What is the Mises Institute?

The Mises Institute is a non-profit organization that exists to promote teaching and research in the Austrian School of economics, individual freedom, honest history, and international peace, in the tradition of Ludwig von Mises and Murray N. Rothbard.

Non-political, non-partisan, and non-PC, we advocate a radical shift in the intellectual climate, away from statism and toward a private property order. We believe that our foundational ideas are of permanent value, and oppose all efforts at compromise, sellout, and amalgamation of these ideas with fashionable political, cultural, and social doctrines inimical to their spirit.
