Murray Rothbard on a Libertarian Institute

December 23, 2011 by

Here is a fascinating letter from Murray Rothbard to F.  A. Harper regarding the setting up of a libertarian institute. No wonder Murray liked the Mises Institute so much! I can’t help but think that if he were still alive today he would be an eminent scholar in residence, writing an article every day for Mises Daily and LRC.

It would be great to have the Murray Rothbard Archives, which are stored at the Mises Institute, digitalized and online, like The Henry Hazlitt Archive was made available a couple of months ago by Universidad Francisco Marroquin.

That letter, sent to F.A. “Baldy” Harper, was Rothbard idea of a libertarian institute that later was going to be the Institute for Humane Studies, which made a false start since the Volker Fund that was going to finance the project, suddenly closed and withdrew all the money.
