Jerry Cheng emailed me this link to the Chinese edition of my economic principles textbook. (The English version is here in various forms.) He said the Chinese authorities completely removed the chapter where I talk about how many millions of people the Chinese Communists killed, and they edited the chapter where I talk about the theoretical problems with socialism.
In related news, the Teacher’s Manual (English edition, of course) that will accompany LFTYE is just about ready to be sent to the printers. I don’t know the exact date of availability, but I imagine it will be early 2012.

This is a reminder that China is still ruled by communist authority. There is no freedom of speach, expression and publishing.
Although they partially opened the market and liberate Chinese people to some degree, their main innovative way of solving the “caculation problem” is to peg the whole production structure to western market and consumer preference, rather than the subjective valuation of their own citizens. I don’t know if this idea should be called smart or evil. But I do know it build the way to the “biggest economic collapse in the history of mankind”, as Robert Wenzel called.
If only you lowered the count to 50 million people, they might have given the chapter a chance. Lesson learned!
I know the English version is available for free as an e-book. Is it possible to make an independent Chinese translation available in the same manner?
Just today I was thinking to myself that the book should be translated to Chinese and bang, I go online and see this post.
I already forced my girlfriend to take Bob Murphy’s introductory class at Mises uni but she was struggling with English, this will help a lot. I’ll buy at least 10 copies to hand out.
Bob,
Congrats!!
China is exploding economically. Robert Mundell has just recommended to the Chinese that they cut their taxes. With a stable currency and tax cuts the Chinese economy will see another surge of growth. But their action of taking out an entire chapter of your book simply because they are embarrassed by the truth illustrates why the Chinese economy will always have a weight around its growth.
The only way they will ever threaten the US economically is if the US voter is dumb enough to elect leadership that destroys our economy. China will not threaten by their own growth because their actions restrict that growth.
Congratulations Bob.
BTW, what’s happening with your blog?
Actually, over 2/3 of the translated chapters was posted online at the LFYE Chinese fan site, including the uncensored chinese translation of Chap 15 and 16.
