‘Liar’s Poker’ coming to the big screen

September 29, 2011 by

According to The Hollywood Reporter Michael Lewis is writing the script for a movie version of his classic Liar’s Poker.

Lewis, the author of several nonfiction bestsellers, is a hot commodity in Hollywood following the success of The Blind Side and Moneyball. Liar’s Poker, Lewis’ first book, has been in development at Warners since the early 1990s. The property picked up momentum recently as Lewis’ star has risen and the economic crisis has thrust the inner workings of Wall Street into the public consciousness.

Boomerang is Lewis’s latest book.

Michael Lewis is quite the gifted author. He presents loads of insight with a flair for storytelling. I wish he weren’t so skeptical of truly free markets. The unholy alliance between big govt and big finance (crony capitalism) seems to be on his radar, but he seems to focus only on the big finance side of things, remaining determined to inject yet more big govt into the equation.

I concur. I hope the movie adaptation doesn’t hammer the Oliver Stone-esque vulgarity of Wall Street and instead focuses on the excellent story line developed by Lewis.

If you know anything about Hollywood this will be another direct attack on the free market by inflating the stupid, greedy trader without any truth about trade itself.
