Anonymous Prison Blues

September 22, 2011 by

I hear the State a comin’
It’s rollin’ ’round the bend,
And we’ll never see the sunshine,
Since, that day we let them in,
We’re stuck in this American Prison,
But they keep steamrollin’ on,
And we let them drag us along,
On down to every last home.

When I was just a baby,
My Mama told me, “Son,
Always be a good boy,
Don’t ever play with guns,”
But they killed a man in Georgia,
Just to watch him die,
When I saw that syringe within,
I hanged my head and cried.

(Sung to Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash.)
