I’m not sure if I’d be more outraged that a project like this was funded with stolen money and took a loss, or if it ended up being wildly profitible.
His follow-up piece would be a live art entitled, “Getting Beaten by Secret Service Agents”.
His real problem was trying to sell it in Australia – everybody knows true art it foreign!
If that money came out of the artists pocket, I doubt he would be putting up that much money for auction.
I am not sure he really lost money. He accepted a $20,000 grant and pocketed $17,000 of it with about 30 seconds of work. It’s not he could have just kept the $20,000 without doing any work. Could he?
Does the artist keep the cash from the auction house? How do we know that’s how it works?
If it does, as you incline, then it is obvious his reason.
Was he trying to be “clever”? What was his “art”? His ‘cultural’ experiment failed monetarily, and yet he will insist it was for the “art” not for the monetary gain. He did this for publicity, nothing more so it seems.
Essentially any Australian citizen with 20,000 can go to the bank, get two stacks and call it a Beaubois…
Gosh, I must be missing something awfully tangible here in this expression of self.
Capitalists profit from State subventions in an evil way.
