The rap on Professorial types is that they can’t cut it in the real world. Even Hollywood has promoted this stereotype in popular movies such as “Cocktail” and “Back to School.” Professors are aware of this label and resent it. So, if they can make the case that the “Real World” is an unjust, unfair place where, to succeed, a decent man must compromise his principles, then, Professors can validate their place in society.
