Free lunch at Subway

March 17, 2011 by

I went to Subway today–St. Patrick’s Day–for lunch. I ordered my lunch paid for it only to discover that they gave me a 1964 Liberty quarter as part of my change. Our pre-1965 coins were made of 90% silver and when I checked its value on the web it turns out that it was worth $6.50 or just slightly more than the cost of my lunch. Luck of the Irish!

May you say your prayers everyday during this lenten period, perhaps longer!
And you are not even Irish??

A 1964 quarter would have been a Washington, are you sure it’s not a fake?

Your are correct, Ryan. I believe that Washington quarters have been minted since 1932, and that the previous design, the Standing Liberty quarters, were last minted in 1930.

Congrats, I even check my pennies when I get change. Haven’t seen a silver quarter or just a bicentennial quarter in a long time.

I’ll second Ryan’s comment. And I don’t think you understand what “Luck of the Irish” means.

I work in food service, and a couple of months ago, a woman gave me three silver dollars as part of her payment (exact change, no tip). She had no idea why I seemed so thrilled.

So much for Gresham’s Law!

It’s been too long. People are “culturally destroyed” in that they take everything for granted. They wouldn’t know the value of true money if it bit them on the ass

Look at your coins. Notice how many are 196….5 quarters (arrrrgh)

Luck of the Irish! You are really lucky! I would love to take some coins like those, cause i’m a collector.
