A couple of comments about this interesting interview:
I thought I heard him say something about the “Tea Party” in Germany. I did not know it is an international movement but I am sure it is purer to its origin (philosophy of Ron Paul) without the infiltration by the neocons, that has taken place in the U.S.
The honor felt by Philipp Bagus to be chosen to give the Rothbard Lecture at the Austrian Scholars Conference was beautifully heartfelt. The worldwide impact of the Mises Institute is really quite remarkable!
Poor audio.
This was an excellent interview. The questions are the ones that we all would ask. Professor Bagus gave us great insight into European monetary affairs. I was especially interested in whether Germany will remain in the EMU. Professor Bagus was surprised that the German press accepted Merkels’ about face on ECB bond purchases. He is right that German’s are still carrying guilt for things that happened decades before they were born and, therefore, remain silent when faced with the charge that going off the Euro would mean war. This is nonsense. Germany going off the Euro would be liberation for the German people and an example for the rest of the common European citizen. I predict that Merkel will lose her job and that Germany will go off the Euro THIS YEAR! This will mean the end of the Euro and good riddance. We shall see.
Is Germany A Prisoner Of The European Union?
The Russians and the British were the chief instigators of World War I not Austria and Germany and the Treaty of Versailles guaranteed that a fascist dictator like Hitler could rise to power in Germany. The Wilsonian doctrine and the lust for booty by the jealous Nation-States of Europe/Asia separated the people from their cultural roots of monarchy, paving the way for communism and dictators who were passed off as democratically elected.
What do the Germans have to feel guilty about except their current foolishness for allowing the lies to continue. Germany needs to cut itself from the European Union and try to resurrect its cultural heritage by finding a way to become a constitutional monarchy.
Then in the short run Germany should reconstitute a gold standard. In the medium run it should terminate all socialism. In the long run it will once again then flourish as a great society with a rich heritage.
