This article is one of the best I have ever read on this website. The sheer insight of Frank is beyond any normal mortal. I printed a copy of this article and will refer back to it in the future. If they only would teach this in school we would have a better world going forward.
I’m very surprised that no other person has commented on this article. I guess libertarians had nothing to add or it went totally against their believes and they couldn’t refute his view.
Joe, it’s Keith, the MP3 audio reader. This excerpt is very thorough and extremely well thought-out. [Very timely; remember it was published in 1959!] I hope you’re right: That it is so thorough that even the greatest minds have nothing to add or detract from it. He somewhat draws the difference between negative government (which our founders envisioned) vs. the positive state, which the thing has morphed into. (But that difference was not even the main focus of the piece.)
When I agreed to read it, I didn’t realize how rich it was until I got into producing it/ putting that together. Now, I’m so glad I did. It’s an important piece. My hope/prayer is that the MP3 audio Mises Daily podcast will give it more exposure.
