Mises.org in China

February 20, 2011 by

This site seems to be dedicated to translations of Mises.org material. Let me know if I’m wrong.

Was not censored? In China there internet censorship by Communist dictatorship.

What I find surprising, having lived in China for seven years, is that Mises.org has never to my knowledge been blocked, whereas other sites that are far less freedom minded (Wikipedia was blocked for a while) have been blocked or still are (Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube are all blocked today)

The site you linked to is a discussion group discussing various things, with links out to different articles and videos. There was one video I saw posted on a Chinese video hosting site (similar to Youtube) with translated subtitles translated by the guy posting the link.

The main site DouBan has nothing to do with the group except the discussion group is set up there.

After a little digging through some of the discussions, I found another interesting group that some people from this group created:

http://pro.yeeyan.org/misesdaily

The link above is another group at an unrelated site, but that group is dedicated to translating Mises Daily articles. It doesn’t translate every article because the translations are all voluntary submissions (although it seems that the translation rights to that particular translation stick with the author)

(It seems that articles were being translated in a hodge-podge manner, with some duplication and no easy way to find them, before the group was created. Maybe it is now the place to go and find Mises Daily articles, or translate them if you are so-inclined.)

Oh wow! Thank you!! I’ve been looking for some Chinese translations of Rothbard to buy for my wife’s family, but anything from the Mises
Institute would be great!

My Father-in-law thinks I’m snubbing them because we don’t talk much, but there’s very little I’m interested in talking about & politics & economics don’t cross the language barrier well.

The family patriarch moved them from China to Vietnam, then when the communists took over they fled. As a whole they’re anti-communist already, so I’m hoping that they’ll read some & come to see this is all as far from communism as you can get.
