Paul Krugman’s Attack on Logic

January 17, 2011 by

In today’s column, Paul Krugman claims that the Republicans are conducting a “war on logic” because they want to repeal (or SAY they want to repeal) ObamaCare. Now, I believe that Republicans HAVE been at war with economic logic for a long time, but what is ironic about Krugman’s latest missive is that he attacks what he calls attacks on logic by…attacking logic.

I cover it in my latest Krugman-in-Wonderland post.

“2,500-word monstrosity”

I didn’t read your blog post in toto yet, but I think you mean 2,500-page here =)

The CBO is generally spot on. The actual difference lie with the implementation of the bill. For example ObamaCare contained some spending cuts such as a reduction in the reimbursement rate for doctors who accept patients in Medicaid, Medicare. Note: This is where the ‘increase in costs’ come from in the CBO’s projections. What nobody is telling you is that Congress in 2010, once again, postponed the rate reduction and they will of course probably postpone other cost cutting measures of the healthcare bill in the future. The CBO isn’t in the business of calculating cost projections on whether or not certain parts of a bill are adhered to.
