Playing by the Rules

December 21, 2010 by

The Creed goes: the United States must have a forward presence everywhere. It must be set up to project its power globally, whether that means boots on the ground, bombs from the sky, or knives in the dark. FULL ARTICLE by Anders Mikkelsen

This explains why it’s futile to try to “change” U.S. foreign policy by playing the electoral game. Getting the “right people” into office has been tried again and again, and we have jack to show for it.

This is what I usually get into arguments about – my lack of faith that the system would work if only we could elect the right people for the job.

Counter Insurgency – what you do when the people you liberated didn’t want liberating.

Fantastic definition.

I just wanted to say thanks for the increased book reviews and discussion on this site. It’s a good trend.

“Ironically, counterinsurgency previously had been seen as exactly the type of ill-fated liberal Democratic social engineering idea that conservative Republican’s didn’t believe in.”

Bob the Angry Flower might not be so angry if he weren’t so benighted.

Scroll down to Politics.

Bob might not be so pedantic, either.

All I can feel after reading this is depressed. How the dreams of Paine and Jefferson have been corrupted.

Why don’t you all just admit that it went down hill beginning with that nasty Monroe Doctrine (circa 1823)? *scarastic roll of the eyes*

Well, I guess Obama must be your hero then, because he is certainly reducing US (and western) influence, credibility and perspective on a global basis.
I have the feeling there is an agenda and a consensus that goes with it, but I think the author may be looking at the container rather than the contents.

The American people not only let the establishment get away with murder (i.e., the Washington rules), but also acts often as the hit man. It cannot be forgotten that in this aspect American families, since many have a member in the armed forces, behave like welfare recipients: they not only fight tooth and nail to steer others’ money their way, but they go out of their way to lionize their “warriors”. Even the good guys like Stossel lionize the military without questioning the moral legitimacy of such a force’s size and actions.

A glimmer of hope will only be possible when the American people change its perception of the military, from its fabricated purpose to the reality of a mercenary, self-serving murderous force. After all, we don’t care that Herod’s soldiers were family men performing their duty: they were as much murderers as Herod.

Obama recently said “America’s interests are not hostile to people’s hopes; they are essential to them.”
