It is one of the strangest turns in the history of liberty that total control over the digital would arrive shouting the slogan “property rights” – defined in a way that the market would never tolerate.

This is truly a reign of terror, like imprisoning the family members or business associates of accused criminals.
No wonder the Wall Street/Pentagon crowd have been shrugging and smirking for the last couple of years whenever criticisms have been made about bank bailouts, warmongering, etc. They knew that the machinery would soon be in place to shut down dissent on the Internet, to tightly control all movement, and to put the remaining media on the payroll.
The extreme thinness of the evidence used to shut down some of these “pirate” sites is probably for a reason – to establish the precedent that speech and communication can be shut down on any arbitrary whim.
They are getting to the point of being the modern equivalent of the USSR, who restricted the ownership of typewriters and required passports for internal travel. If that’s not bad enough, the mortgage gridlock could leave them in control of so much of the country’s housing that they could hold a near-monopoly on determining where people can live and work.
