Predicting the Future

November 30, 2010 by

The European Union did the predictable thing and opened an antitrust investigation of Google. My prediction? In seven to ten years, the EU will fine Google an eight-figure sum and order the company to change its search algorithm — by which time Google will have already been supplanted by a competitor that doesn’t even exist today. Assuming the internet even exists at that point.

My prediction? In 7-10 years, the European Union will either no longer exist or find itself wracked by wars of independence.

We can only hope, shortly followed by the UN.

Haha, as if to say there isn’t teams of Google employees constantly refining, researching, and innovating their search algorithm.

No, I like Robert Brager’s prediction better. Down with the EU and up with Google! :D

Isn’t it more likely that they will force Google to provide its competitors with their search algorithm? Much in the same way the EU ruled that Microsoft needed to supply Sun and others with the Windows source code because having the code was “monopolistic.”
