Libertarian Sci Fi Anyone?

May 29, 2010 by

I am completely captivated by the new piece of science fiction by Matthew Alexander titled Withur We. Gifted with an array of amazing story and beautiful imagery the author launches you to a distant future of state oppression and mechanical liberty. Follow the struggles Alistair Ashley 3nn, maybe the last of the free market anarchists, as he builds a resistance against state tyranny. The author does an amazing job of interspersing libertarian thought throughout this fictional voyage.

 Enjoy!

My personal fav: Vernor Vinge’s “A deepness in the sky”
..and never forget Heinlein’s TMIAHM… of course..

For those that enjoy the genre, nothing like going down the full Proetheus awards winners…

For those who like space operas, military and libertarian scifi a new book is coming to amazon in a couple of days.

“The price of Freedom” by J.L. Leclerc

Product Description: The first Intergalactic war raised more problems than it solved. When it’s democracy versus freedom, no one’s on the same side. Capitalist vs. consumer, rich against poor, the allies change from battle to battle. If you had an ideology that you stuck to- you were a dinosaur on the verge of extinction.

The three leaders of the revolution; the Galaxy’s richest man, the most prolific assassin in history and a high school teacher will forever change what it means to be free. And will pay the price

There are several people who almost specialize in libertarian SF. Checking out the Prometheus Awards is a good start for that.

The site that is linked seems to work with IE6, but not IE8.

Last I checked, that’s a known bug in IE8: unlike Firefox, it’s incapable of dealing with IE6-style HTML.

I’m only on about page 20 so far (just arrived last night in the mail), but I’m enjoying this book quite a bit. I think the author might have taken one of Rand’s courses on fiction writing.. especially judging by the length of the book! I bought the print version from Amazon. Try as I might, I find I cannot read books off of a screen and maintain full comprehension of what I read.

Downloaded yesterday and I’m on page 318 — absolutely love it! Love how the plot and characters simply don’t take a predictable path after the first couple of chapters. Unlike Rand, political & economic theory is very fitting in content in length in the conversation rather than becoming long drawn out speeches. Action — my teenagers will absolutely love it and the action alone makes one think of the movie screen along the lines of the Riddick movies — if only someone could get this book into Vin Diesel’s hands.
