How was it that "under Murray Rothbard's influence" Karl Hess III attended the Young Americans for Freedom convention in St. Louis in 1969? Karl's son and I attended the University of Virgina. I invited Karl Hess IV to the YAF convention so we could present our ideas to the conservatives. I was eligible to run for a national position in YAF and we used that as a platform. Karl talked his father into going there.

ABC national news interviewed Karl Hess IV at the YAF convention. The national press picked up on this. At one point we decided to meet under the Arch in St. Louis but the police surrounded and converged on us and we left. The headline in the St. Louis Globe-Dispatch the next day was: "Arch No Place for Anarchists."

Another result of the convention was that Karl Hess III debated William Buckeley, Jr. on TV.

The paper we presented to the convention -- The Tranquil Statement -- is published in an anthology of American writers: Thomas Jefferson, Tom Paine, Emerson, Thoreau, Malcolm X, Karl Hess, etc. (American Radical Thought: The Libertarian Tradition.)http://www.amazon.com/review/R19CR26DJ6YMDW

There is a lot more to the story. Still, thanks for the bio on Karl.
