Quote Bastiat:

“Socialism, like the ancient ideas from which it springs, confuses the distinction between government and society. As a result of this, every time we object to a thing being done by government, the socialists conclude that we object to its being done at all.” – Frédéric Bastiat

Shows you just how insightful was Bastiat. A true genius.

Yes, but it also shows how unbelievably OLD this rhetorical battle against the State is.

Beautiful quote.

That is a marvelous quote. It definitely captures a bit part of the problem.

…the problem is that most Americans don’t know what ‘socialism’ is — and they certainly have no thought that their U.S. schools or health-care system is even remotely “socialist”.

Quoting Bastiat would merely be met with puzzled looks.

Anyone know where the quote came from?

Well, duh! I’ve been fighting this fallacy almost as long as I’ve become a libertarian, much less ancap. But a good quote is always handy to have.

I wonder how many Americans actually realize that health care, education, and banking are already quasi-socalized. Or that ‘public’ utilities are pretty much outrightly so.
