As an agnostic atheist, I have to say that you can do as the last paragraph of the passage says, and still find all but one paragraph (the law of love and charity one) to be true.

Also, I must say that the passage is one of the most beautiful things I've read in a long time; but that might be because halfway through the intro song to Kingdom Hearts entered my head, and it is also beautiful.

Further, I couldn't help but think about the Lord of the Rings trilogy books while reading this. If you have not read them, the movie does not touch well on many of the core concepts of the books. It touches on how the evil of destruction removes any chance of happiness, and that losses are made through war, much like this article.

That's right. The income tax is a war declared on the people. The IRS is an extortion racket.

"If any one considers the organization and external figure of the body, will he not instantly perceive that Nature, or rather the God of Nature, created the human animal not for war, but for love and friendship; not for mutual destruction, but for mutual service and safety; not to commit injuries, but for acts of reciprocal beneficence? Man she brought into the world naked, weak, tender, unarmed, his flesh of the softest texture, his skin smooth, delicate, and susceptible of the slightest injury. There is nothing observable in his limbs adapted to fighting or to violence."

But then he learns the truth of life from his leaders:

Tax his land, tax his wage,
Tax his bed in which he lays.
Tax his tractor, tax his mule,
Teach him taxes is the rule.

Tax his cow, tax his goat,
Tax his pants, tax his coat.
Tax his ties, tax his shirts,
Tax his work, tax his dirt.

Tax his chew, tax his smoke,
Teach him taxes are no joke.
Tax his car, tax his grass,
Tax the roads he must pass.

Tax his food, tax his drink,
Tax him if he tries to think.
Tax his sodas, tax his beers,
If he cries, tax his tears.

Tax his bills, tax his gas,
Tax his notes, tax his cash.
Tax him good and let him know
That after taxes, he has no dough.

If he hollers, tax him more,
Tax him until he's good and sore.
Tax his coffin, tax his grave,
Tax the sod in which he lays.

Put these words upon his tomb,
"Taxes drove me to my doom!"
And when he's gone, we won't relax,
We'll still be after the inheritance tax.

Taxes involve the initiation of force and violence in the conduct of otherwise peaceful human affairs against innocent, peaceful, law-abiding people. Violence begets only violence! Taxes enable, finance, facilitate and foster war, war, war, Taxes beget violence. Taxes come before war. No war can be fought without taxes. Taxes = war. You can't have one without the other. Won't! Can't! Never will happen!

You want your roads built with taxes? You might just as well pave them with the ground up flesh of your children who will die in the wars that your acquiescence to taxes to pave your roads made possible. Violence begets only more violence! Want to eliminate war? Renounce the use of force and violence to obtain your wants and needs through taxation. Don't call yourself a peacemaker if you condone taxation. Worried about your defense? Practice nonviolence in all of your affairs and your fears will evaporate. Don't believe it? Try it diligently and see if it doesn't work.

Disciples of Jesus love their neighbors as themselves, as well as their enemies, and their persecutors. They are nonviolent and do not believe in nor countenance war, nor pay taxes that finance war. Christians, on the other hand, following the lead of the canonized saint Augustine, justify war (just wars) and participate in them wholeheartedly with zeal. American Christians kill children. Disciples of Jesus do not.

"MARJA, Afghanistan — An errant American rocket strike on Sunday hit a compound crowded with Afghan civilians in the last Taliban stronghold in Helmand Province, killing at least 10 people, including 5 children, military officials said."

I am becoming more and more convinced that the State has co-opted the churches with its war-hysteria.

I find it intriguing when you read the pastoral prayers of preachers from a century ago they all pray for peace, but now they pray for the well being of the servicemen in their congregation... a vast difference, with catastrophic consequences.
