Not everyone needs a pen

February 23, 2010 by

But for those who do, we are pleased to offer this.

How can a pen be both elegant and vaguely suggest a deep and abiding radicalism?

It seems implausible but the Mises Institute pen – made of heavy-weight black carbon fiber and metal – will make you a believer. It is a beautiful thing to hold and use, the one pen to carry and have on hand to inspire oohs and aahs.

Beautiful scripted on the cap is the institution that is doing the work of preserving individual freedom: The Ludwig von Mises Institute.

This is a roller ball point pen with cap, and medium-point black writing ink – and comes in a velvety sheath.

Not bad at all! A few questions. What brand refills does it use? Who makes it?

Also, if you ever make a fountain pen version, I’m in. ;-)

A refill for this pen is the brand “uni-ball,” Med 0.7 mm. The uni-ball product number is 70207. I just picked up a few at an office supply store.

This roller-ball pen is heavy and sensuous to write with, perfect for a poet.

What Chris said. Fountain pen, baby. :-)

I prefer a retractable pen. I don’t want a removable cap; they are cumbersome. I prefer to “click” and write!

Ugh! A retractable pen wouldn’t have the elegance that this one does.

Picky picky picky!

Get a quill and do it the way Jefferson did!

It’s a nice pen, really! I’ll have to send the link as a birthday hint.

What I don’t get is the money “clip” with Mises on it. Shouldn’t that be a coin holder? And the silver coin is nice, but what about gold? Mabey we could have them struck with the faces of all the Austrians and libertarians, like the T-shirt collection? Collect them all, and support the Institute, AND make up the difference over the exchange rate between the fiat currency and the gold now by saving them until the dollars inflate later. Now how much would you pay?

Seriously though, the gold coins could have 1/10th ounce centres with silver rims. I figure they could sell for about $100-$150 a piece and that would make a nice appropriate “Mises” kind of “token”.

Excellent idea, and I will buy one as soon as it comes out as a fountain pen :P

What a great pen. I’ll buy it.

I also second Fred Furash: a fountain pen would be excellent!

Thanks, I am always looking for something to round out a book order.

This is a start but put me down for a LvMI Fountain Pen!!!….

Stupid question but it’s not immediately obvious how we ‘open’ the pen to insert the refill. Do you twist or pull? What part?
