A University of Georgia student passed himself off as a veterinarian. He managed to get a job with a private company, but was quickly discovered and dismissed. He then got a job as a supervisor of meat inspection with the US Department of Agriculture and lasted for four years! The USDA ignored tips that he was a fake and was only dismissed after the tipster went to the media and the story ran on local television.
“For the last four years, Holt worked as a veterinarian for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Your tax dollars paid for him to supervise dozens of employees, and inspect food processing plants around Georgia to make sure the animals were healthy and the food supply safe.”
In other words, if not for the private sector this guy would still be in charge of meat inspection.

While this might post, on the surface, looks like a success for the private sector it obscures the larger problem with guild protection or government regulations that restrict employment only to those that carry the right card. Not particularly free-market.
The individual lied about their paper skills and reasonably should be fired. But I’d be curious to know: Did this person do a decent job or not. If not, they should be fired regardless. If so, then this is government intervention disguised as consumer safety. Nothing in the investigative article mentions anything about failure to perform the work.
He was fired because the company determined he did not have the necessary skills. Then he got a job with the USDA as I understand it.
One interesting thing to consider is that it is plausible that the USDA didn’t have anyone with better skills to replace the impostor. That may have been why nobody wanted to hear the truth from the tipster
I think it’s telling that the guy tried to commit fraud in the private sector and failed within three months, but got away with fraud for four years while in the public sector.
J. Cortez:
Bingo!
Someone quick check Bernanke’s credentials!
They check out, he is perfectly qualified to run the counterfeiting operation for the unConstitutional coup.
He was hired as the District Veterinary Medical Specialist, and supervised and trained 45 real DVMs on government best practices and policies. He never attended ANY veterinary school, and was able to land his job because he used the credentials of a real veterinarian by the same name, but who lives in another state. His business card read “Timothy L. Holt, DVM, PhD, DVMS,” but he didn’t have anything other than a Photoshopped diploma and transcript to back it up. Important to note here that he was fired from a DOG FOOD company right before the USDA hired him to be in charge of food safety for human food for three states of producers. When I approached the feds and offered to drop a pile of non circumstantial evidence in their laps, they slammed the door in my face. I’m not private sector, by the way. I was just a citizen who knew Holt and who had been told enough lies about other things to begin questioning his claims about his profession. Incidentally, the feds have known about this since last August and they still haven’t filed a single charge against Holt, nor have they rescinded a single of the HACCP documents he instituted.
