Hayek on the School of Salamanca

October 28, 2009 by

“The basic principles of the theory of the competitive market were worked out by the Spanish scholastics of the 16th century and that economic liberalism was not designed by the Calvinists but by the Spanish Jesuits!” F.A. Hayek, 1979

Letter is here, as sent to us by Jesus Huerta de Soto.

Wow!

I’m really interested in reading Early Economic Thought In Spain by Grice-Hutchinson. Is there any chance the Mises Institute will get its hands on it?

Dan,

I’m desperate to read it too, especially after reading The School of Salamanca.
