I’m optimistic. Here’s one reason why. Forgive me if you know about this already, but I’m encouraged by the existence of the Instituto Ludwig von Mises Brasil. My sister lived in Brazil for a few years, and I finished Atlas Shrugged for the first time when we went to visit her. I’m giving a talk in Memphis on 10/19 titled “A Message of Hope from the Dismal Science;” the diffusion of good economics even in the face of opposition is one of many reasons why I’m optimistic about the long run.

I am proud of this citation. We are begining and Mises Intitute is our inspiration. Maybe, in 25 years, we can achieve all goals MI achieved.
Though we are just beginning as Cristiano said, our website already has a significant audience for Brazilian standards – more than 1,500 unique visitors per day.
Stay tuned – the english version should come out in a few weeks.
Apart from the site, we will host a Conference in April 2010, with several Austrian Economics scholars, such as Salerno, Woods, Block, Thornton, and others. And we have just published our first book: Economia do Individuo by Rodrigo Constantino.
Nice work guys!
Greetings from Sweden.
Cool! I am Brazilian, follower of both websites, and I am very happy to see a recognition of ILvMB’s work from LvMI… and from Art Carden!
My wife is Brazilian, and we had found this site too. Keep up the great work!
I like the fact that they have Rothbard (as well as Mises) on the coat of arms.
Here’s a puzzlement: the Ludwig von Mises Institute of Brazil has no books by Mises in its bookstore or its library.
I would love to see Austro-libertarian views on the Brazilian economy and South America too. It would be nice if they were in English also.
Deb, we plan to publish ALL books by Mises and Rothbard in portuguese. Some of them have been translated about twenty years ago, and are out of print.
We will publish at least five books by January 2010, and the rest gradually until December 2010. In 2011 we will start translating the others. We will use print-on-demand technology, and will provide pdf and a nice html navigation. Stay tuned!
Yoohooo!!!
I’m Brazilian and a regular Mises.org reader since 2005, and ***I didn’t know*** there’s already a local Mises website on the air!!
That’s what I call good news!!
I think, from now on, many people in Brazil who are interested in sound economics but don’t have a good knowledge of English, will now have a reliable source of information for self-development.
Congratulations to the LvMI and ILvMB teams.
Way to go!!!
Helio: Thanks for the reply! I’m delighted that you intend to publish ALL of the works of both Mises and Rothbard.
